They do not like others developing game content, which is why they make continual "minor" updates that always seem to break every mod written for the previous version. Who wants to continually update their mod every couple of weeks and repost it to the Steam Workshop because KSP decided to release a "minor" update and break all the mods? It all comes down to would the workshop be GOOD idea for kerbal and my personal veiw is the workshop is a terrible idea for any game and if i could find all my mods elswhere i would as it can cause issues like broken saves and corrupted install data(bethesda titles especially vulnerable for this) since its badly implmented and thought out it if it gave you a zip file to place in a mod manager i would be all for it but as it is now direct install to games main data folder that has to be a hell no It certainly isn't laziness that is keep the mods from appearing on Steam. While i dont use the workshop for many games(gal civ 3 mostly unfortunatly) i have to point out that skyrim/oblivion/Fallout 4 had/have very active workshops AND nexus prescence with many modders doing both with no apparent ill effects and both the nexus and teh workshop get plenty of exclusive content. Craft and mission sharing works well enough alone. Overall, It's better for all of us if mods stay away from steam workshop. It's easy(er) to check those files when you can easily open the mod folder, but steam encloses those into specialised file types for easy download(which makes personal edits harder too) Such dlls can potentially hide viruses/malware. Malicious intend: KSP mods often include DLL plugins for custom features like new planets, reactor's of all kind, lifesuppot etc. (Next one I'm not so sure as I'm not fully sure how steam would install mods and how well steams content checker works) Id be like having 24 different methods to do something, then trying to invent a standardized method and you'll end up with 25/different methods to do something. We already have Github/SpaceDock/the official ksp forum and Ckan(and easy automatic mod download &Installer. Unnecessary redundancy: As mention, steam pages would have to be made, additionally to existing external mod pages. Ksp mods on external sites also often allow you to download previous mod versions. But ksp has the Nice option to allow you to revert to previous ksp versions via the betas tab. Update the mod and the old version is gone. It may be slightly more convenient for the users, but a large amount of additional work for the modder.īackwards compatibility: steam mods don't have that. Asking them to maintain 2 identical mod pages would be too much. Meaning a steam and a non steam mod page would have to be run Steam exclusive: Steam workshop is exclusive to people who acquired KSP through Steam.īut there's also a large number of non steam users. Nonetheless, here are some reason why I think that there wont be any mods on here: I'm NOT an official Squad/private division member, so I can't confirm/unconfirm anything. With the recent addition of the workshop, people have been asking (and will ask) why there aren't mods here.
